How to take care of your beautiful awning
Proper maintenance and care is required for the awning to last for years and look like new. When one gets a new awning it is necessary to read cleaning and care guide of the manufacturer. There is also a difference on how to care for a fixed awning canopy and a retractable awning.
While caring and maintaining a fixed awning canopy firstly do not allow dirt to build up on your awning canopy. The awning can be swept with a broom and also rinsed with water. Washing the awning with mild soap is recommended as detergents can damage the fabric.
Do not allow the soap to dry on the awning canopy and be sure to rinse the entire soap residue off.
Do not clean the awing in high temperatures or pour cold water on a hot awning canopy as it can cause it to crack, reapply a water repellent substance annually to the awning to ensure that it is protected from the elements of the sun and rain. If the awning is not properly protected the fabric can crack or shrink.
In addition to the general cleaning and maintenance tips for fixed awning canopy, retractable awnings require certain additional steps. Do not close a retractable awning when wet, wait till it is dry before it is retracted.
There are dyes in the awning canopy and if retracted while it is wet, it could cause the colors on the awning canopy to bleed and run. While taking down the canopy and storing it every year be sure it is dry before putting it away. Clean it well before reinstalling it. An application such a Hi-Tech Fabric Guard or something similar is also recommended.
